Capacity Building

08 Jan 2008

Nuffic implements programmes that specifically aim to strengthen the performance of individuals, organizations and institutions in developing countries or to develop them in new fields.

The lack of advanced capacity is considered as an important restriction for socio-economic development.

The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs therefore finances a number of  programmes with capacity development as their main objective in developing countries.

Nuffic manages two of these programmes: NPT, and NFP.

  • The NFP is  focused on education and training, which should lead to capacity building of individuals and their organizations, whether public,  private sector or non governmental.
  • The NPT aims att strengthening the capacity of post secondary education and training organisations.

Specific characteristic of these two programs is that they focus on ‘professionals’ as well as the organization where they are employed. They are not meant for individual students.

The actual transfer of knowledge and the other capacity building related activities are implemented  by  providing training and education and by implementing specific projects with partner organizations in developing countries.

All these projects and educational programmes are usually implemented by Netherlands ‘knowledge centers’. They receive grants from Nuffic for their contribution in the programmes.
