Examine the available study programmes.

Accreditation


Make sure that the programme of your choice is an accredited programme.

If it is not, it doesn’t necessarily mean that its quality is not up to par, but it may mean that the degree is not formally recognized in the Netherlands. As a consequence, the degree may not be recognized in your home country.

Check the institution

Check whether the institution of your choice appears on the list at www.internationalstudy.nl to make sure that it has signed the Code of Conduct and therefore is allowed to recruit international students.

Scholarships

Contact the Dutch embassy or the international relations office of your own institution to find out about scholarship and exchange opportunities. See also www.grantfinder.nl.

Contact the institution in Holland that offers the programme you have chosen, and ask for more information about admission requirements, language requirements etc.

If the programme is suitable and you meet the requirements, follow the institutions procedure for gaining admission.

Immigration regulations

At the same time, check which immigration regulations apply to you. You will find this information at: www.nuffic.nl/international-students/preparation-stay/preparing-your-stay/visa-and-permits.

 From collecting the required documents to receiving your actual visa (if needed) may take up to 6 months.

Documents

Gather all the documents which the Dutch immigration authorities require in your case. If you need an entry visa (MVV), ask your host institution if they can arrange it on your behalf.

Ask the host institution about arranging a place for you to live.
